Breaking down the real fan bases for The Great Gatsby, Mrs Dalloway & Lolita
Perfect.
OK, I get this concept. And having read all three books, my favorite being Mrs Dalloway, I’m not really surprised that I’m in good company with graduate students, tea drinkers, people in therapy, and high school english teachers. I match 3 out of 4 of those categories (guess which one I’m not!).
What really got me confused, as a social scientist, were the colors in the pie charts! They don’t represent the same categories across the three charts; red is wanna-be-novelists is high-school-english-teachers is tragically-hip. Not good, my friends. Not good graphmanship at all.
Time to go read some Tofte. And to reflect on the fact that I am both a literature nerd AND a data nerd. Wow.
Having been one myself, I can pretty much vouch that the Venn diagram of English majors, drunks, and wannabe novelists, is essentially a circle.
YES. Oh, god, seconded to the nth degree.
